@Susan Blake
You may want to look into how many DV charges result in conviction. The threshold for arrest is extremely low, which means that an accuser only needs to make a claim of assault and have some kind of injury in order for the police to make an arrest. There is an arrest first, investigate later mentality around DV claims.
Although these laws are meant to protect the abused, they are instead being taken advantage of by those seeking to get revenge on a lover or friend, or use the charge as a power play in a divorce or other similar dispute. And of course, the police are biased towards assuming the man is the aggressor, so he is the one usually being arrested. Apparently woman cannot be violent, and certainly not MORE violent than a man…
The worst part is that eventually the law will be abused so much that there will need to be a change. The many people who are actually in abusive relationships will not have as much protection because of the selfish manipulation of a few.
