Bellevue Police’s BLU Unit ready for Crosslake Connection opening on March 28

The Bellevue Police Department today announced the agency’s Bellevue Light Rail Unit (BLU) is ready for the grand opening of the Crosslake Connection on March 28.

Bellevue Police’s BLU Unit has one goal: foster a safe and positive 2 Line riding experience for community members.

“The City of Bellevue has prepared for this moment since launching the BLU Unit two years ago. Bellevue Police has worked with our Sound Transit and King County Metro partners and identified how we can deliver a positive riding experience for everyone,” said Wendell Shirley, Chief of Police. “I ask community members that whenever they’re riding the 2 Line and see a BLU officer at their station or on their train, take a moment to say hello and remember: they’re there for you.”

The Bellevue Light Rail Unit has been in operation since its launch in April 2024. The specialty unit was approved and received permanent funding by the Bellevue City Council in November 2022.

To promote a positive riding experience for customers, Bellevue’s BLU Unit will be highly visible along the 2 Line, especially during peak commute hours or during major public events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The BLU Unit will also partner with Sound Transit and King County Metro representatives when a call for service is requested by community members.
