With temperatures expected to soar this week, the Bellevue Police Department issued an urgent reminder: dogs die in hot cars. The image is disturbing, but the message is important: it only takes minutes for pets left in hot vehicles to suffer a fatal heat related medical emergency. It goes without saying that you don’t leave your kids in a hot car, yet many people still believe that it’s ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is it’s a very dangerous situation for the dog, and every year Bellevue Police Officers respond to calls of distressed dogs in hot vehicles. Don’t leave your pet in your car during hot weather, even for a few minutes. If you see a child or animal that appears to be in distress in a vehicle, obtain the vehicle description and call 911 immediately.
