Bellevue Police arrest suspects tied to local crime organization

The Bellevue Police Department announced the arrest of two suspects tied to a large-scale crime organization responsible for thefts targeting older community members across the region.

On Wednesday, April 8, Bellevue Police Detectives responded to a suspicious incident on the 31400 block of 23rd Ave S in Federal Way involving two suspects – Ion Miclescu and Simona Paun – who were a part of a long-term theft investigation by the agency. Detectives observed both Miclescu and Paun using a white Honda Accord to target community members at a senior living center. The suspects then continued this activity a local grocery store a couple blocks away.

The suspects soon left the area and traveled northbound on Interstate-5 and then northbound Interstate-405. Having already developed probable cause, detectives stopped the vehicle at the 12000 block of NE 85th Street in Kirkland and immediately arrested the suspects for the following crimes:

Robbery, One Count Each

Theft 1st Degree, One Count Each

Both suspects were transported to the King County Jail for booking. The vehicle was also towed to the agency.

The Bellevue Police Department has been investigating this crime organization over the last few years. Dating back to summer 2024, the department has issued several warnings to the public following numerous theft incidents where older community members were approached by strangers, and through an act of deception, would have high-value jewelry stolen from their possession. While the suspects have used strong-armed tactics, most victims were often not aware they had their jewelry taken from them until after the suspects fled the scene.

The investigation into this case is ongoing. Bellevue Police ask community members to always stay vigilant and exercise caution when being approached by strangers. Additionally, community members are asked to call 911 if they witness or experience a theft incident. Information provided to law enforcement could assist in the investigation.
