Bellevue patrol officers and K9 Ozzy quickly tracked down and arrested two suspects in a mid-afternoon assault and robbery in the 4000 block of 148th Ave NE Tuesday. Officers have booked a 29-year-old man and a 47-year-old female on charges of robbery, assault, and malicious harassment. The female suspect is also accused of assaulting a police officer.
The victim says she was walking north on 148th Ave NE when the suspects called her a terrorist and told her to go back home. She’s a recent immigrant from India. The suspects then assaulted her and demanded her wallet, again calling her a terrorist.
A witness approached to help the victim and after a verbal exchange, the suspects fled on foot. The 35-year-old victim sustained minor injuries.
K9 Ozzy and multiple patrol officers arrived on the scene, as Ozzy tracked the suspects through an apartment complex and into some bushes, patrol officers quickly located and handcuffed the suspects as they exited the bushes at a bus stop.
“Hate and hate crimes have no place in the city of Bellevue,” said Police Chief Steve Mylett. “We will do whatever it takes to find anyone who’s committed a hate crime, arrest them and build the strongest case possible against them for prosecutors,” the Chief adds.
