Attempted Kidnapping Suspect In Custody

The suspect in the attempted kidnapping has been identified and is in custody after Seattle police recognized the suspect from a similar crime in that city.

Saturday evening, February 13th, a victim in Bellevue reported that a male driving a white van tried to force her into his van at knifepoint near 108th Ave NE and Northup Way at 6:20 pm. The victim refused and flagged down a passing car. At that point, the suspect fled westbound on SR-520. The victim was not injured.

Bellevue detectives issued a regionwide bulletin, and a Seattle Police detective recognized the description and contacted BPD with the suspect’s identification. It turns out the suspect was already in custody in Snohomish County on unrelated charges.

The vehicle the suspect used, which had previously been reported stolen in Seattle, was recovered by Bellevue police and will be processed for additional evidence.

The suspect remains at the Snohomish County Jail on unrelated charges and will be booked at the King County Jail upon his release.
