A 20-year-old Bellevue man is suspected of assaulting a valet attendant about 9:00 am in the 1100 block 108th Ave NE and stealing a red Camaro. The valet says the suspect shoved him to the ground, stole the car keys, and fled. Police spotted the stolen vehicle driving recklessly, and when the suspect’s car reached speeds in excess of 85 mph, officers did not pursue it.
Shortly after, the suspect collided with another vehicle near BelRed Road and NE 24th St. Luckily, no one was injured in the collision. The suspect abandoned the Camaro and fled on foot. King County Sheriff’s Guardian One, King County K9, and Redmond police all assisted in the search.
About 45 minutes later, officers spotted the suspect running near BelRed Road and 124th Ave NE. Two Bellevue motorcycle officers quickly arrived and arrested the suspect after a short foot chase. Two police officers suffered minor injuries. The suspect was not injured.
This is the second time in less than a month Bellevue police have arrested this suspect for similar crimes. May 13, 2021, this 20-year-old Bellevue resident was charged with two counts Attempted Robbery 1st Degree after trying to steal two cars in north Bellevue in the early morning hours. Officers located the suspect in a storm drainage pond near SR-520, and he was booked into jail. The suspect posted his $50,000 bail six days later and was released.
He was arrested again this morning and booked into the King County Jail on investigation of Robbery 2nd Degree, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing, and Hit & Run.
