The Bellevue Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect who reportedly vandalized and attempted to light a Planned Parenthood facility on fire.
At approximately 12:40 a.m. on Friday, September 18, Bellevue firefighters were dispatched to reports of a fire alarm at the 14700 block of NE 8th Street. Bellevue Police were soon called to the scene after firefighters concluded the facility had been vandalized and encountered the suspect loitering at the scene.
The suspect, a 36-year-old male who is unhoused and currently resides in Seattle, told Bellevue Police that he used a rock to vandalize the front of the building before tossing an ignited piece of paper through the broken glass.
Bellevue Fire reported minor damage to the facility. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for the following crimes:
Arson in the Second Degree (One Count)
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail. Based on interviews with the suspect, Bellevue Police believe he acted alone and is not associated with any additional individuals or organizations. Police also believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, community members are urged to call 911 if they ever see anything suspicious happening across Bellevue.
