The Bellevue Police Department announced its Traffic Unit will hold a speeding, noise, and distracted driving emphasis this week to formally conclude the annual “100 Safe Days of Summer” road safety campaign.
Since the kickoff of this year’s “100 Safe Days of Summer,” Bellevue Police has aimed to bring awareness about the dangers of impaired, speeding, and distracted driving to community members. This included an impaired driving campaign at the start of summer and patrols to address noise complaints in July. The effort has been a success with the department issuing the following citations over the last three months:
This summer’s campaign may be concluding, but the Bellevue Police Department will continue to prioritize speeding and noise emphases for the foreseeable future. Starting September 8, the agency will receive Pipe Down devices and sound-level meter training which will assist officers in providing accountability and education for individuals who choose to drive vehicles with modified exhausts.
Speeding and noise complaints are a top issue for Bellevue’s community members. Since the start of the year, Bellevue Police’s Traffic Unit has implemented its Safer Roads Initiative where officers have conducted routine proactive patrols to address reckless driving and noise complaints throughout the city. Bellevue Police have also partnered with regional law enforcement to address these concerns as well with the Eastside Safe Streets Task Force.
