New Bellevue Police K-9 Hits the Street
After over 500 hours of training, the Bellevue Police Department’s newest four-legged cop is ready to hit the streets. Týr, pronounced “Teer”, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois that was born in Holland, was purchased by the Bellevue Police in November 2016 from the Von Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana. He is the first Belgian Malinois to be used as a police K-9 in Bellevue. Týr’s name is derived from the Norse god known for law and justice. Týr’s handler, Officer Brad Knudtsen, who has worked for the Bellevue Police Department for 19 years and has been a K-9 handler for the past 8 years, was previously partnered with K-9 Roc, who retired in 2016 after seven years of faithful service to the Police Department. In order to be certified as a police K-9, Týr underwent an extensive training process to ensure that he had high drive and good sociability along with excellent tracking skills.
Týr was purchased with funds generously donated by the Bellevue Police Foundation. The Foundation also provided funds to purchase a ballistic vest for Týr. For more information about the Bellevue Police Foundation, go to www.bellevuepolicefoundation.org.
Members of the public and media are invited to come meet Týr this Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the main concourse of Bellevue City Hall outside of the city council chambers.
Bellevue Police Issue Warning: Dogs Die in Hot Cars
With temperatures expected to soar this week, the Bellevue Police Department issued an urgent reminder: dogs die in hot cars. The image is disturbing, but the message is important: it only takes minutes for pets left in hot vehicles to suffer a fatal heat related medical emergency. It goes without saying that you don’t leave your kids in a hot car, yet many people still believe that it’s ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is it’s a very dangerous situation for the dog, and every year Bellevue Police Officers respond to calls of distressed dogs in hot vehicles. Don’t leave your pet in your car during hot weather, even for a few minutes. If you see a child or animal that appears to be in distress in a vehicle, obtain the vehicle description and call 911 immediately.

The driver of a Mercedes Benz GL350 was driving eastbound on NE 8th ST approaching 124th AVE NE when the driver of Kia sedan ran the red light southbound on 124 AVE NE at NE 8 ST causing the driver of the Mercedes to strike the side of the Kia, causing life threatening injuries to the rear passenger. The driver ran alongside of the car for approximately 1 block before falling and getting injured. The vehicle continued to coast and accelerate down the hill on NE 8th ST, with the young child still trapped in the seat, striking two trees and knocking them down at the 12800 block and the turning into a Lincoln sedan broadside. The vehicle then came to rest at the entrance of an apartment complex. Officers arrived and provided first aid until the fire department arrived and transported the injured occupant to the hospital. Bellevue Burglars Busted
This morning at 8:03 a.m., Bellevue police officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at a residence in the 4000 block of 149th Avenue SE. The female resident was in her bed when she heard two unknown men in the adjacent room of the house. The resident was able to call 911 and relay this information to NORCOM dispatchers. While the resident was on the line with 911, the suspects entered the victim’s bedroom and began looking through her dresser drawers. The victim was able to successfully avoid detection by hiding under her bed sheets. The suspects heard police arrive and ran out the back door of the residence. A K-9 unit responded and began to search for the two suspects. A short time later, a Bellevue motorcycle sergeant located two individuals matching the description of the suspects walking along SE 36th Street. The sergeant detained one of the suspects, however the other suspect began running. The second suspect attempted to get into an occupied vehicle in his attempt to escape, however the door was locked and the driver was able to get away. Additional officers responded to the area and took the second suspect into custody after a short foot chase. The suspects, a 21 year-old male Renton resident and a 25 year-old Burien resident, were arrested for investigation of burglary and obstruction. The suspects are not being named as they have not yet been charged with any crime.
Bellevue Police Case #17-38092
Bellevue Police Bust Theft Ring
BELLEVUE, Wash. – Investigators with the Bellevue Police Department, along with Detectives from the Issaquah, Sammamish, Redmond and Kirkland Police Departments, joined forces to combat an organized group suspected of breaking into vehicles at numerous area parks and fitness centers. Investigators have made 11 arrests to date, and expect to make several additional arrests over the coming weeks. The suspects, working in coordinated teams of two to three, are accused of watching victims hide purses and wallets after parking in a park where walking trails are located, wait for the victim to leave, and then smash the window and take the hidden items. The suspects then use the victim’s stolen credit cards to purchase items at area stores. To date, Investigators have linked the suspects to over $100,000 worth of loss in Bellevue alone.
The suspects that have been arrested are:
- Treshaun Sinclair, 20
- Leila Haji, 19
- Ahjanie Thompson, 24 (arrested twice)
- Deionte Hunter, 20
- Tevona Hollis, 20
- Dwight Miles Jr., 24
- Tatiana Dickey, 18
- Leneeka Warren, 19
- A 20 year-old female that has not yet been charged
- A 20 year-old male that has not yet been charged
- A 19 year-old female that has not yet been charged
Investigators have also linked many of these suspects to the individuals charged in the death of Moises Radcliffe, the son of a Seattle Police Officer, killed in Sammamish in January of this year during an attempted car prowl at Beaver Lake Park.
In addition to the arrests, investigators have recovered two handguns that may be linked to shootings in South Seattle and King County earlier this year. The guns are currently being analyzed to see they can be linked to additional crimes. Police have also seized three vehicles that were used in the commission of the felony crimes or were obtained through money laundering. The combined efforts of higher visibility in the parks by uniformed officers and public education, combined with the intelligence and arrests by detectives working the operation, have resulted in our park prowls dropping significantly.
Police urge residents to prevent these types of crimes by never leaving valuables in their vehicles, and ask people to LOCK, TAKE, LEAVE – lock your car, take your valuables with you, or leave valuable items at home.
