Elderly Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Somerset Crash

An elderly Bellevue man was seriously injured last night after he was struck by a vehicle while walking less than a block from his residence. Last night at 4:40 p.m., Bellevue Police and medics responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a car near the intersection of SE 43rd Street and Somerset Blvd SE. The pedestrian was transported by Bellevue medics to Harborview hospital with serious injuries. Investigators believed that the pedestrian, an 88-year-old Bellevue resident, was walking in the roadway at dusk when he was struck by a 2007 Infinity sedan driven by a 18-year-old Bellevue resident. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. Investigators with the Bellevue Police Department’s collision investigation unit are investigating this crash.

The roadway that the pedestrian was on was equipped with traffic calming speed bumps as well as a sidewalk on one side of the roadway. With the sun setting earlier during the winter months, Bellevue Police remind motorists to be aware that pedestrians may be on residential roadways after dark.
