A Bellevue police officer was forced to jump out of the way of a moving vehicle following a traffic stop Sunday evening in the 400 block 120th Ave NE. After being pulled over, the driver pulled a U-Turn and intentionally drove at the officer. Luckily, he was able to get out of the way safely.
The driver then fled the scene and was spotted southbound on I-405. Bellevue police attempted a stop, but the suspect sped off, driving recklessly, and Bellevue police terminated the pursuit. The driver exited at Exit 5 in Renton and crashed into a vehicle that was stopped at a stoplight.
The driver and passenger then took off on foot and were apprehended a short time later. Luckily, there were no injuries to the driver hit by the fleeing suspects.
The driver was arrested on investigation of Assault 2, Eluding, Hit and Run Attended. The passenger was arrested on investigation of Obstructing, Drugs, Paraphernalia, and a $35,000 residential burglary warrant. Renton PD assisted with the collision investigation.
Bellevue police detectives arrested a 30-year-old woman and two 17-year-old males in connection with the shooting at the Overlook at Lakemont Apartments on July 10, 2020. The 48-year-old victim was shot 9 times in the parking lot as he approached his car. He survived and is recovering.
Detectives arrested the victim’s 30-year-old ex-wife on investigation of attempted murder, alleging that she hired a 17-year-old to carry out the shooting. Investigators say that male suspect then got a friend to drive him from Mount Vernon to Bellevue to shoot the victim. The ex-wife was allegedly going to pay $13,000 for the murder to hire scheme.
This is still an active investigation, and more details will be made available soon.
Major Travess Forbush is available for interviews at 4:15 pm. Please call the PIO at 425-766-2092

Reported domestic violence cases in Bellevue are more violent since the COVID-19 pandemic began. While the overall number of reported cases during this time frame is about the same compared to the historical five-year average, “What has changed is the level of violence,” warned Major Travess Forbush. “Since the pandemic forced us all to stay home, we’ve seen a 28% increase in felony domestic violence assaults. These situations are more dangerous for the victims; the injuries are more severe,” Forbush added.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and DV advocates urge those suffering to reach out for help. It’s also imperative that friends and loved ones recognize the signs of domestic violence. The COVID-19 pandemic has everyone isolating at home, which is dangerous for domestic violence victims.
“Survivors have seen an unprecedented increase in safety concerns due to the COVID-19 epidemic and related economic downturn. We are seeing a sharp increase in the frequency and severity of abuse endured by survivors and their children, including more serious injuries and higher lethality indicators, including more threats with firearms and strangulation,” stated Rachel Krinsky, the Executive Director of LifeWire. Krinsky adds the need is dire, “We are receiving a significant increase in the number of requests for protection orders and an exponential increase in requests for rental assistance and food assistance.”
If you or someone you know needs help, Bellevue-based LifeWire is a phone call away. Advocates staff the helpline 24/7, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources are available for those involved in a domestic violence situation, and for family & friends who want to help. The 24-Hour Helpline is 800-827-8840. An officer was in contact with a subject who was possibly attempting to sell stolen property. The subject has an extensive history of priors and $25k worth of warrants. A meet was set up with the assistance of K9 and the on-duty Captain. The subject’s vehicle (a rental car) was located. A high-risk stop was attempted, but he fled westbound on I-90 towards Seattle. SPD and WSP were advised. Further investigation determined that the suspect and his girlfriend were captured on a store’s surveillance cameras prior to the attempted stop. The video showed them as they exited the vehicle and entered the store together, which is an order violation.

Bellevue Detectives identified and arrested a prolific burglar in Seattle Wednesday evening. The 30-year-old is a suspect in at least 18 burglaries, including one in Bellevue, five in Redmond, and more than a dozen in Seattle.
The Bellevue burglary occurred on September 4th in an apartment building in the 10400 block NE 2nd St. Investigators found 33 storage lockers pried open, and belongings were strewn about the area. Security cameras recorded two suspects, a female, and a male.
The female was identified by her unique tattoo and arrested in north Seattle, driving a fraudulently rented white Nissan. She was seen at a burglary in Redmond driving the same car.
Suspect vehicle
Detectives booked her into jail on charges of Burglary, Vehicle Theft, and Identity Theft. Investigators are still looking for her male accomplice.
Bellevue detectives are working with the other jurisdictions to recover any stolen property and evidence to support those cases.
Bellevue police arrested a 44-year-old Edmonds man on charges of Commercial Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Child Molestation 2nd, and three counts of Communication with a Minor for Immoral Purposes. He has been charged and is currently in jail on $200,000 bail.
Theodore Therriault is accused of grooming a 13-year-old Bellevue girl by buying her gifts. When the victim’s mother found a brand-new iPhone, perfume, lingerie, and clothing that she did not purchase, she contacted the police.
Therriault’s 2015 Infinity QX60 confiscated after his arrest
During the investigation, detectives learned Therriault ordered ride-share cars to pick the girl up and take her to a mall or his home in Edmonds. He also drove the victim in his vehicle, which detectives seized following his arrest. The victim says she communicated with Therriault via Snapchat because the messages disappear.
“This case is further proof that the internet can be dangerous, especially for young people,” warned Major Travess Forbush. “Parents need to have open communication with their teens about what’s appropriate and what’s not on the internet. They need to know what social media channels and websites their kids use and who they’re communicating with,” Forbush added.
Experts say since most students are now online for school, the danger has never been greater. Washington Trafficking Prevention (WTP), a survivor-led organization committed to ending human trafficking in Washington State, reports at least a four-fold increase in reports of children being groomed on social media platforms since the pandemic began.
“Everyone is using social media to stay connected during the pandemic, yet that’s where most young people encounter unsafe relationships,” says WTP Executive Director Kyra Doubek. “The dangers of social media platforms are real. It’s the easiest way for an abuser to engage with potential victims and produces the highest return.”
Doubek says WTP helps parents and families safely navigate the online world and she offers these pointers:
Just because a child meets the minimum age recommended by social media sites doesn’t mean that they should have social media or need them.
Parents need to be familiar with apps and safety settings.
Set boundaries and realize if your kids aren’t always happy with you, you’re probably doing your job! It’s important to provide guidance and keep your kids safe.
TALK OFTEN about social media. Talk about boundaries, who kids can be friends with, and how to deal with online bullies. Make sure your kids know you are always there to walk with them through stuff they may be ashamed of or feel scared.
If you have information or know someone who is a victim of sex or labor trafficking, you are encouraged to contact Bellevue Police at viceht@bellevuewa.gov. You can remain anonymous. Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
